REFLECTION
I had a difficult time finding plays with significant silent women in the play, especially since it does not seem to be an area that has been studied thoroughly before. In the end, I had to settle with plays from other eras, which made the plays easier to access (since they were in the Public Domain) and research. I ended up doing a Shakespeare work, which I think will still show changes in the representation of women in theater, and a Romantic feminist work, which shows the views toward women at the time and how it was combatted. I had hoped to use plays from eras closer together, like modern, postmodern, and contemporary, but I could not find plays that fit the role of the "Silent woman." I’m a little disappointed that I had to settle for plays which weren’t quite the time periods I had hoped. I learned a lot through the process, like that I don’t really know how to do research for contemporary works, since there isn’t a lot a research around them, so finding them is difficult. I also learned that researching things that haven’t really been researched before takes a lot of time and resources that I didn’t know how to access. If I had more time, like a couple years, I would be able to read more plays and hopefully build a more conclusive understanding of women in theater.
